Meet the Doctors

Dr. Layne grew up in Worthington, Ohio and moved to Knoxville to attend the University of Tennessee. In 1993 he received his undergraduate bachelor in microbiology and graduated as DVM in 1997. Upon graduation, Dr. Layne worked in a mixed animal practice in Columbia before opening New Shackle Island Veterinary Hospital in 2000.

Always having an interest in the biological sciences and a desire to help others and animals the veterinary profession was a natural fit for Dr. Koelling. Upon graduation from the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine, he began working in Franklin, TN. After a short time there he joined the staff of New Shackle Island Veterinary Hospital. Personally, his interests include spending time outdoors, woodworking, and spending time with his family. We are blessed to have Dr. Koelling as a part of our New Shackle family!

Dr. Brothers is a Hendersonville native that is happy to be returning to her hometown! She attended the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in Knoxville, TN before joining our practice. Her professional interests include small animal ultrasonography, radiology, and ophthalmology. When she is not practicing medicine, you can find her working out, hiking, playing with her two dogs Asher and Bentley, and hanging out at home with her husband!

Dr. Rodriguez grew up in Quincy, Illinois and attended the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine. She moved to Hendersonville and joined our practice in 2019. Her professional interests include surgery, ultrasonography, cardiology, and pain management. When she is not working, Dr. Rodriguez enjoys working out, hanging with her beloved dog Nala, enjoying the great outdoors, and spending time with her family especially her nieces and nephews!
